How it works...

Chemical peels have been performed for decades to reveal healthier, brighter skin. Chemical peels are minimally invasive treatments that cause trauma to the top few layers. The micro injuries cause the outer layers to peel off after treatment. The result? A resurfacing of vibrant, smooth, and healthy skin underneath.

Your peel can improve specific blemishes, wrinkles, scarring, and other signs of aging. Treatable Concerns

  • Complexion

As skin ages, pigment-containing cells decrease, and the epidermis thins. Aging skin looks thinner, paler, and even clear or translucent.

  • Wrinkles + Fine Lines

A lifetime of smiling leaves its mark! Minimize fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, by removing damaged layers of skin for a smoother, less wrinkled under layer.

  • Age Spots

Years of UV light exposure leads to melanin clumping resulting in dark spots. Chemical peels burn away these spots, to reveal unblemished skin beneath.

  • Hyperpigmentation

This condition makes some areas of the skin darker than others. Peels remove the outer layer to even out coloring and appearance.

  • Acne Scars

No one wants reminders of past acne woes. Peels remove dead surface cells and also stimulate collagen which can help fill in scars.

  • Skin Tone + Texture

Over time, skin becomes thinner, loses fat, and no longer looks as full or smooth as it once did. Peels address these issues by removing dead cells, exfoliating skin, and providing a collagen boost.

  • Overall Glow

Over time, complexions can become dull and cloudy. Dissolve and allow dead skin cells to slough off, clear pores, and allow smooth and vibrant skin to surface.

Pre- & Post-Treatment Tips

  • If you wear makeup to your appointment, we'll need to remove it before your treatment.

  • Prepare your skin by not overexfoliating. Avoid retin-a, exfoliants, facial masks, and self-tanners before treatment.

  • It’s important to stay hydrated! Be sure to drink plenty of water before and after your treatment.

  • Limit sun exposure and wear a sunscreen. It's necessary help protect skin – and also preserve your results.

FAQs

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels work by applying a chemical solution to your skin that causes a controlled injury. As the damaged top layers peel away, healthier, younger skin will be revealed underneath.

Different chemical peels may address:

  • A smoother complexion
  • Decreased acne scars
  • An even skin tone
  • Fewer wrinkles and fine lines
  • Fewer age spots
  • A healthier glow

Ultimately, chemical peels are a way to enhance your skin tone and improve your skin’s appearance without undergoing expensive cosmetic surgery.

Consult with Ellehomme Holistic Medspa's professionals to determine which peel is right for you. During your consultation, we can help you come up with a treatment plan to reach your goals.

What can I expect at my treatment?

First, your skin will be cleaned to eliminate excess oils or dirt on the surface. Your eyes and hair will then be covered to protect it from the chemical solution. The solution will be evenly applied, and it will begin to cause a controlled injury to the top layers of the skin.

You may feel stinging or discomfort, which is neutralized by a cool compress after the chemical solution is washed off.

Depending on the strength of your peel, consider scheduling your peel in the evening or before a weekend to allow for downtime (some are around 4 hours).

Expect to peel! That's how you know its doing its job. Peeling generally shows up within 48-72 hours and can last for 2-5 days.

Is treatment safe?

Chemical peels have been done for centuries– some say Cleopatra would bathe in sour milk to exfoliate and restore her skin!

Chemical peels have come a long way since then. But to have the safest and most effective results, it's important you go with an experienced and qualified practitioner. Talk with your provider about underlying conditions, medications etc., to make sure you are a good candidate.

While redness, swelling and peeling can be expected as part of the normal healing process, there are risks of infection and internal damage to the heart and liver. Your best guarantee for avoiding adverse side effects is to choose an experienced doctor. With the right provider, you can significantly reduce your risk of serious side effects.

Chemical Peel Side Effects

In addition to peeling, patients may experience:

  • Itching
  • Tenderness
  • Swelling
  • Redness
  • Scabbing

Treated areas take about 1-2 weeks to heal after a medium peel, but redness may last for longer.

Will it hurt?

Mild peels are generally painless, and can be very relaxing! However, the deeper the peel, the "spicier" it may be. You may feel intense flashes of heat on your treated area, but your provider will always ensure your comfort with frequent check ins and neutralizers as needed.

Is a chemical peel right for me?

Healthy men and women, of all skin tones, who suffer from unwanted skin conditions such as wrinkles, lines, spots and other skin aging are good candidates for chemical peels.

Peels are not recommended for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding. Also not advised for those with inflamed acne, sunburn, a history of abnormal scarring, or those taking Accutane.

During your consultation, your provider will ask you about any allergies, current medications, and underlying conditions. We will make sure that chemical peels are safe and appropriate for you.

What should I avoid after treatment?

After your treatment: Do not put anything on your face for 4 hours; no exercise/working out for 3-4 days; avoid sun exposure and no tanning for 2 weeks.

Hold off on retinols, glycolics, and your normal skincare regimen for 7-10 days until sensitivity has subsided.

It's tempting, but refrain from picking and prematurely removing peeling skin. Stay hydrated and patiently wait for stunning results.

Can I go back to work after my treatment?

It says it in the name - expect to peel! We generally advise you to schedule peels in the evening or over the weekend to allow for downtime. You will see peeling as early as 24 hours, but generally it will start on day 3 and finish around a week.

When will I see results?

The peeling process begins after a few days. It can take around 2 weeks for the damaged layers to peel away and to see the full results of the new skin.

How long will my results last?

Different kinds of chemical peels have varying lengths of how long the results will last.

While a light peel may last just a few months, deep peels can last for years or indefinitely. Set up a consultation to explore the chemical peel options available at Ellehomme!
