Here at ElleHomme Holistic Med Spa in Chicago, we offer a variety of relaxers- such as Botox and Dysport, and dermal fillers- like Juvederm, Belotero, and Radiesse- to help our clients improve their overall youthful appearance and confidence.
What are Relaxers?
Relaxers work to temporarily relax the muscles around the face that cause crow’s feet and facial lines. Botox and Dysport both contain botulinum toxin type A; the ingredient that works to reduce the nerve and muscle movement that causes facial wrinkles to form.
Relaxers work to improve the many expression lines that form over time. They work to give an overall relaxed appearance. The procedure is quick and has little to no downtime. The effects of relaxers usually last up to four months however, they do vary in each patient. Side effects are typically mild, such as swelling, redness and soreness. Those effects will subside on their own in a matter of days. Some side effects that are uncommon include: problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, double vision, blurred vision, and drooping eyelids.
What are Dermal Fillers?
Dermal fillers work to plump up the areas injected to address the volume loss and fill in the lines and creases in the face. Dermal fillers, unlike relaxants, work to replace the fullness that has been lost and help create a smoother appearance in the face.
Dermal fillers contain ingredients such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, and poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that help create the fullness we observe when injected into the problem areas. Collagen forms the network of fibers that provide the structural support in your skin by using your facial muscles for expressions; collagen loses its strength which creates facial lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid is type of sugar substance made by the body that gives your skin volume and fullness. PLLA are tiny round and smooth plastic particles used to improve the skin folds around the nose and lips. The most common side effects include tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.
